Pricing has been announced for the 2023 Volkswagen ID4. It’s now one of the more affordable battery-electric vehicles on the market. Starting at $38,790, this gets you into the newest addition to the lineup: the ID4 Standard. Although it makes the same 201 hp as the version with the larger pack, its estimated driving range drops to 208 miles. Why the lower range? It uses a smaller 62-kWh battery.
The 2023 Volkswagen ID4 still offers the larger 82-kWh battery in either single- or dual-motor configuration. The latter, however, makes 295 hp combined and can travel up to 255 miles per charge. For maximum driving range, the single-motor variant with the large battery goes up to 275 miles. Every ID4 now gets Plug & Charge capability as standard. Volkswagen also bumped the ID4’s DC charging speed to 170 kW, an increase of 35 kW.
2023 Volkswagen ID4: What Else is New?
Exterior styling changes include gloss black accents on the front bumper and an illuminated Volkswagen logo on all trims. Additionally, the SUV gets new wheel designs including available 20-inch units on the S trim. Every version now comes with the 12.0-inch touchscreen as standard. New driver assistance features include automatic lane changing capability and enhanced automatic parking with memory.
Volkswagen replaced the Gradient package with the ID4 Pro S Plus trim from 2023. These come exclusively with the 82-kWh battery in either single- or dual-motor configurations. This also adds unique 20-inch wheels, power-folding side mirrors, a black roof, and silver roof accents and roof rails. New features include three-zone climate control, heated rear seats, an upgraded audio system, and a surround-view camera system. Pricing for this variant starts at $51,490 for the single-motor version or $55,290 for the more powerful dual-motor model.
Production of the 2023 Volkswagen ID4 takes place in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Volkswagen also builds the SUV in a plant in Germany. The U.S.-built ID4s are expected to reach dealers by this fall.
